Apprenticeship
The job of an administrative employee is
an occupation in the civil services. As an administrative employee you
can work in different parts of the civil
services, for example, in the local governments but also up
to the level of the general internal federal administration. It is also
possible to work in other administrations: the administration of the Protestant
Church or the administration of the Federal Ministry of Transport
How long does this apprenticeship last ?
How long does this apprenticeship last ?
The apprenticeship as an administrative employee
lasts three years. In some cases it is possible
to shorten the training by up to half a
year.
Our apprenticeship is divided into different parts and training courses.
| SPLITTING | 1st year | 2nd year | 3rd year |
| BBS: | 4 months | 4 months | 4 months |
| practical training: | 8 months | 4 months | 4 months |
| training course: | / | 4 months | 4 months |
PRACTICAL TRAINING:
The practical training includes work in
different departments, e. g. department of social security, passport office,
etc.
BBS:
At school we get the basic knowledge we
need for our apprenticeship. We also learn a lot of important things about
the private enterprise.
TRAINING COURSE:
Twice we attend a training course, e. g.
in Hanover or Sulingen ( a small town in the North
of Germany). Through these we can widen the knowledge we got at the BBS:
At the end of the first training course
we have to write an intermediate examination, which comprises the
education of the whole first year of training. The second training course
is at the end of the third year and it
ends with the final examination.
These are only some examples of what we have to learn for the final examination:
- organisation of the administration
- tasks of the administration
- structure of the budget
- how to audit and work on bills
- tasks of the social welfare office, the
registration office, the personnel office,...
- peculiarities of local government politics
- how to calculate welfare aid
- ...
Many people think an administrative employee
only drinks coffee and reads the newspaper, but it is fact that an administrative
employee has to do real work :
- work on files
- flexible working hours
- give people information, e. g. about welfare
aid, passports,...
- prepare decisions for superiors
- make assessments, e. g. tax assessments
- issue certificates, passports and identity
cards
- work in the personnel department or in
the cash point
- enter deposits and paying outs in the
books
- make statistics
- collaborate on the drawing up of budgets
- ...
to the top
- nice and funny colleagues (the chance
to laugh about jokes and funny mistakes!!!)
- most of our colleagues are aged between
25 - 40
- good wages during our apprenticeship (in
comparison to other apprenticeships)
- work in different departments where we
have to do a lot of other different interesting tasks
- company outings, a Christmas celebration
and other "parties" each year
- involvement e. g. in cultural events
- ...
